For many of us, the response to painful thoughts, emotions and life circumstances is to check out, numb, avoid or shut down. (Perhaps all of the above.) To me, therapy work is not about learning to get rid of all the bad stuff. It’s about learning how to show up and keep going despite the bad stuff. This can look like: -Learning skills to regulate your emotions, tolerate distress, be mindful and have more fulfilling relationships. -Identifying values and goals that make life worth living. -Challenging thought patterns that don’t serve you -Simply having space to grieve past hurts and trauma My approach combines all of the above - you and I will collaborate on what this will look like for you. My style is “radically genuine, “ which means I show up as a human and equal rather than an “expert.” It involves engaging in an authentic manner, not taking myself too seriously or ignoring the obvious. My style is warm, non-judgmental and accepting.
