Welcome to Ramirez Therapeutic and Consulting Services, a space “Where Brushstrokes Meet Breakthroughs”. I am Dr. Kelvin Ramirez, a Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and Licensed Professional Art Therapist with over two decades of experience in clinical practice, education, and global advocacy. My practice provides transformative mental health support through a unique blend of trauma-informed care, creative interventions, and a steadfast commitment to social justice. My Journey: From the South Bronx to Global Advocacy My path as an art therapist was forged in the South Bronx in 2001. As a young educator, I was responsible for a classroom of 35 sixth graders when the events of September 11th altered our lives. Witnessing my students' palpable fear and angst, I turned to the artistic process—an outlet that had always grounded me—to help our classroom community communicate turmoil and find support in collective exploration. This pivotal moment transformed me from an educator who used art to teach into a therapist who uses art to heal. My approach is further informed by my own history as a Dominican national, born amidst the complex historical traumas of political instability and environmental crisis, which drives my passion for helping others navigate and dismantle systems of oppression. Client and Treatment Specializations I provide culturally responsive care tailored to the unique needs of individuals, families, and organizations, with a focus on: • BIPOC Mental Health: I specialize in the mental health needs of BIPOC individuals, offering a safe environment for those from marginalized communities. • Asylum Seekers and Migrants: Drawing on my extensive work on the US-Mexico border, I support those impacted by systemic violence, displacement, and the trauma of "liminal" spaces. • Couples and Family Therapy: I offer a compassionate space for couples and families to explore emotional challenges, navigate intergenerational conflict, and achieve personal growth together. • Adolescent Males of Color: My research and practice focus on amplifying the perspectives of young men navigating poverty and school-based environments. • Trauma, Grief, and Life Transitions: I help clients navigate complex emotional challenges, including substance abuse recovery, incarceration history, and chronic illness. • Bilingual Services: I offer all services in both English and Spanish to ensure comfort and understanding for the bilingual community. The Impact of My Services My services offer a meaningful and lasting impact by providing a language that goes beyond the limitations of words. Art therapy is not about "making a pretty picture"; it is a goal-directed mental health profession that helps you: • Build Resilience and Coping Skills: We use the creative process to help you manage emotions and gain self-awareness. • Reconnect with Your "Genius": I believe there is a healthy, creative "genius" in every individual that wants to heal itself; my role is to help pull that part out from under the weight of difficult circumstances. • Author Your Own Story: By externalizing internal states through art, you gain the agency to reframe your narrative and move past feelings of isolation or powerlessness. • Access Healing Anywhere: Through secure online sessions, I serve clients across New York, New Jersey, and internationally, ensuring that professional guidance is accessible wherever you are in your journey. Ultimately, my goal is to help you "trust the process" as you transform your life from a place of drudgery or pain into one of beauty, insight, and authentic connection.
