Introduction

In 1995, I earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Montana State University followed by a Master’s Degree in Education in 2002 and later another Master's Degree in Professional Counseling in 2015. With over a decade of experience in education and counseling, I feel my practice brings a diverse background to treating clients. In pursuing a career in mental health, my journey started four years earlier as a Behavioral Specialist in a school setting. After completing my counseling degree, I added to my focus from working with children of all ages to working with men and women in and out of correctional settings. I remained devoted to providing mental health services to a challenging population because I believe people can change. My leadership skills lead to supervising other clinicians, case management, providing crisis intervention, and community mental health treatment development. Currently I offer a range of therapeutic services in my private practice as well as providing professional consulting to agencies and organizations. Central to my therapeutic approach is the belief that the counseling process is a collaborative alliance with my clients discovering how to become experts in their own lives. Within this framework, clients from various stages in their lives, backgrounds and ages can discover their inner strengths to promote healthy daily living and add evidence based problem solving skills to their toolbox enhancing positive change. With a strong passion for making a difference in the lives of others, I developed a unique perspective that helps clients navigate through personal mental and emotional struggles, heal from their past trauma, and learn to experience life with practical skills reducing anxiety and stress. Specializing and trained in a diverse range of mental health interventions, I focus on helping my clients discover their own strengths and overcome challenges related to depression, anxiety, substance use, and grief/loss/trauma. My approach is holistic, addressing not only the immediate symptoms, but also the underlying issues that contribute to clients' struggles. I am particularly adept at guiding adults through major life transitions, recognizing the impact these changes can have on a person's emotional and mental well-being. My specialty is truly meeting people where they are at in their current life journey. A cornerstone of my therapeutic philosophy is the commitment to practicing with positive unconditional regard. I prioritize creating a safe and nonjudgmental space where my clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and share experiences freely. By fostering an environment of acceptance and understanding, individuals experience how easy it can be to trust again, gain personal confidence, be open to trying change and engage in the therapeutic process with ease.
