Hi, I'm Laura. I have over 25 years working of experience working in the mental health field across a variety of roles and settings. I believe therapy can be beneficial for everyone- whether your working through difficult life experiences, managing symptoms, or building healthier coping skills. I chose the name Hygge (pronounced "hoo-ga") for my practice because it reflects a Scandinavian concept centered on warmth, safety, and comfort. My goal is for every client to feel a sense of ease and acceptance in our work together. While therapy is not always comfortable- and can at times be quite challenging- I strive to offer a space grounded in empathy, affirmation, humor, and support as we explore unhelpful patterns in thoughts and relationships and work toward healthier ways of being. My approach is eclectic and client-centered. I primarily draw from psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based approaches, while also incorporating techniques from solution-focused therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing. My practice focuses on mood disorders (including depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder), grief, life transitions, aging, trauma, substance use, and women's issues. I'm especially passionate about supporting women through the prenatal and postnatal experiences, as well as through the transitions of menopause. I welcome individuals from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds and all sexual orientations, and I am proud to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. I work with adults ages 18 and older, including women, men, and individuals who identify as nonbinary. We will begin by identifying what brings you to therapy and the goals you would like to achieve. I believe each person's journey is unique, and I see my role as a compassionate guide- helping you navigate that journey at your own pace.
