Laura Jo Trexler, owner of Open Cadence Therapy, works with children, teens, families, and adults navigating life’s emotionally complex challenges. She specializes in supporting adults through caregiving, family-building, and identity transitions. In addition to evidence-informed approaches, she incorporates creative, expressive, and play-based techniques tailored to each client. Many of her clients feel overwhelmed, isolated, or stretched thin by circumstances often misunderstood by society. Laura is also an artist, teacher, and foster/adoptive parent, bringing a personal perspective to her work with families. She is passionate about working with: • Children & teens navigating big emotions, anxiety, ADHD, neurodivergence, school stress, and family transitions • Caregivers & families, including foster, adoptive, and blended families, managing relational stress, grief, and burnout • Individuals and couples facing infertility, pregnancy loss, and complex family-building journeys • Adults reflecting on identity, life, and relationships after navigating late ADHD diagnosis or prior misdiagnosis • Older adults exploring meaning, life transitions, identity, and purpose • Artists & creatives navigating identity, self-worth, “comparison spiral,” rejection, and pressures of performing and the industry She holds two master’s degrees — one in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and one in the Performing Arts — which shape her relational, experiential approach to therapy. From a trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming perspective, she blends expressive arts and play-based methods with evidence-informed strategies to help clients explore emotions, strengthen relationships, and develop tools that fit real life. Therapy with LJ is collaborative and paced, grounded in curiosity, creativity, and connection. Her work is informed by both professional training and lived experience. As a foster/adoptive parent, neurodivergent adult, practicing artist, and someone who has navigated family-building challenges, she brings empathy, perspective, and respect for complexity into the room.
