Introduction

Welcome to Peace Through Change Counseling, LLC. My name is Laurie R. LaFollette, MS, LPC, LCPC, NCC, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in West Virginia and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland. I specialize in helping individuals heal from complex trauma, PTSD, and addiction, with particular expertise working with military service members, veterans, and first responders, including law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS personnel. Many of my clients have experienced repeated exposure to trauma, critical incidents, chronic stress, loss, moral injury, and substance use challenges that have impacted their relationships, careers, and overall well-being. I bring over 20 years of professional experience in the medical, legal, and law enforcement fields, and since becoming a licensed therapist in 2018, I have dedicated my practice to helping individuals navigate the lasting effects of trauma and addiction. This background provides a deep understanding of the cultures, demands, and challenges faced by those who serve others. I understand that trauma and addiction often become intertwined, leaving individuals stuck in survival mode and disconnected from the life they want to live. My practice focuses on helping clients process difficult experiences, develop healthier coping strategies, break free from destructive patterns, and build resilience for lasting recovery. My counseling approach is grounded in Carl Rogers’ person-centered theory, emphasizing authenticity, empathic understanding, and unconditional positive regard. I provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where healing can occur while also encouraging the courage and commitment needed for meaningful change. Recovery is possible. Together, we will work toward healing, growth, and finding Peace Through Change.
