Leslie Tyus earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2013. Leslie began her counseling work in 2011 as a graduate research assistant on a smoking cessation project at the University of Alabama. From 2011 to 2014, she provided counseling to adults seeking support in quitting smoking. While counseling adults through a smoking cessation project, Leslie completed her practicum and internship in 2013 at the Bessemer Cut-off Children's Advocacy Center, doing business as The Clay House. There she began her work advocating for children that were victims of physical and sexual abuse, From 2014 to 2016, Leslie provided counseling to children and their families as an Independent Contract Counselor with the Tuscaloosa Children's Center and J.R. Moore & Associates, LLC. In 2016, Leslie returned to The Clay House as Clinical Director, where she provided clinical supervision, counseling, forensic interviews & consultation, and collaborated with partner agencies to advocate for victims. During the 9 years there, Leslie received training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to support clients in healing from trauma.
