Introduction

Lisa Barnes is currently a 3rd year student in Regent University’s graduate program and is a PCC Trainee at Matthew’s Family Counseling. Aside from the roles she has pursued during her educational journey and her work in social services with the Salvation Army, this is Lisa’s first official role as a mental health professional, and she couldn’t be more excited. She is driven by the idea that this work will help lead to a great positive difference in the world. Lisa is comfortable performing both group and individual therapy and utilizes various treatment modalities. She has experience working with those from many different walks of life, such as children in foster care, those experiencing homelessness, youth in crisis, court-ordered clients, and adults who live below the poverty line. Lisa has learned a lot throughout her education and other experiences, but she looks forward to continuing to learn and grow as she works with clients of her own. She finds true joy in helping people realize the change and impact they can have on their own lives. Lisa is comfortable working with youth, young adults, and abuse survivors of all ages. She is also comfortable working with clients with all types of mental health concerns. She also offers a safe space for those in the LGBTQ+ community. Lisa chose a career in the mental health field because, through her work in social services, she has seen how much mental health is disregarded. She aims to be the difference she wishes to see and push toward systemic change. She is committed to providing her clients with the best care possible as she recognizes how important it is to take care of one’s mental health, especially during extremely stressful times. Through her many life experiences, especially from being in the foster care system herself, Lisa knows how important it is to feel seen and heard. She strives to create an environment where her clients can have a safe space to fully express themselves.
