Introduction

Hello! I’m Mariah Tendam, LPCC, and I founded Rooted Bonds Counseling to offer relational, trauma-informed therapy for young adults and adults navigating attachment wounds, grief, and life transitions. Much of my work is with people who are noticing relationship patterns that feel hard to change, or who find themselves wondering why certain dynamics seem to repeat in their lives. Many grew up in relationships where their emotional needs weren’t consistently understood or supported, and are now trying to make sense of how those early experiences may still be shaping the way they relate to themselves and others. I also work with young adults navigating transitions—entering adulthood, moving through college or early career changes, or rethinking what relationships and stability look like in this season of life. I support people grieving the loss of a beloved companion animal as well, especially when that grief feels deep, complex, or not fully understood by others. For many, losing an animal companion is the loss of a family member, and that grief deserves space and care. My work is collaborative and attachment-focused. I care deeply about supporting people as they move through relational trauma, and I also hold space for the role the human–animal bond can play in both connection and loss. I integrate trauma-informed approaches, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), to help clients process experiences that continue to carry weight in the present. Therapy moves at a thoughtful, steady pace. Together, we explore relational patterns, strengthen boundaries, and work toward building a greater sense of safety and trust in relationships. Therapy is always shaped around your story and what feels most important to you. Wherever you’re starting from, this can be a place to slow down, make sense of your experiences, and begin relating to yourself and others in new ways. If this resonates with you, you’re welcome to reach out to schedule a consultation.
