Introduction

Markus is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern who helps adolescents and adults navigate substance use, addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma and major life transitons. He brings a steady, grounded presence to therapy and is especially attuned to clients who feel stuck in cycles they don’t fully understand, but deeply want to break. Markus Spencer Markus takes an integrative, trauma-informed approach, drawing from CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing and parts-based work. He often focuses on substance use and relapse patterns, emotional regulation, shame, and identity. Rather than treating behaviors as problems to eliminate, Markus helps clients understand what those behaviors have been protecting and how to build safer, more sustainable coping mechanisms. He believes that meaningful change begins when judgment is replaced with curiosity. Central to Markus’s work is supporting clients who carry relational or spiritual wounds, including experiences of church or faith-based trauma, authority misuse and loss of meaning after belief systems collapse. He approaches these conversations with respect, curiosity and care—helping clients untangle guilt, fear and identity without pushing belief or disbelief in any direction. Known for his honest and direct approach, Markus is easy to talk to even when the work is uncomfortable. He doesn’t rush the process or offer quick fixes; instead, he helps clients slow down, look inward and rebuild trust. Markus holds master’s degrees in clinical Mental Health Counseling and Developmental Psychology, and is a doctoral student in Counselor Education and Supervision. His professional interests include adolescent substance use, trauma-informed care, and family systems and multicultural approaches to addiction treatment. He has extensive clinical experience working with adolescents in residential substance use and mental health treatment, as well as providing individual, family and group counseling in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Markus is a registered Mental Health Counseling Intern practicing under the supervision of Dr. Ferrall and Dr. Suplicy.
