Introduction

Licensure & Credentials: Nevada LCPC #CP1222-R California LPCC #3394 Oregon LPC #C6611 EMDR Certified Therapist National Certified Counselor (NCC) #1273217 - - - - - Hi, I’m Marla Dietz—a Licensed Professional Counselor in Nevada, California, and Oregon. I’m also an EMDR Certified Therapist and a Nationally Board Certified Counselor. Since 2012, I’ve been helping children, adolescents, and adults navigate life’s challenges and heal from trauma, depression, anxiety, and loss. My private practice is based in Northern Nevada, where I offer in-person therapy. I also provide teletherapy to clients across Nevada, California, and Oregon, making care accessible no matter where you live in those states. My work is rooted in trauma-informed care. I use evidence-based approaches, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), to support clients in processing difficult experiences and building a more grounded, empowered present. Therapy with me is collaborative and compassionate. I believe every client’s story is unique, and I work to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported. Whether you’re facing overwhelming emotions, painful past experiences, or just feeling stuck, we’ll work together to create meaningful, lasting change. In addition to working with individuals across the lifespan, I welcome those navigating unique life transitions or high-responsibility roles—including expecting parents, experienced or new parents, and those coping with reproductive or parental loss. I also have a strong interest in supporting fellow mental health professionals. Whether you’re managing burnout, navigating compassion fatigue, or simply seeking personal support, I offer a nonjudgmental space tailored to your needs as a helper and human. My clinical training background includes school-based counseling, community mental health, and crisis intervention. I’ve provided therapy in K–12 schools, facilitated groups, and supported adults mandated to treatment through the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services. I’ve also volunteered on the LA County Suicide Hotline and served as a crisis therapist at a Los Angeles high school. Before becoming a therapist, I was an elementary school teacher, a behavioral therapist for children with autism, and an educational tutor for students from preschool through college. This foundation continues to shape how I support young clients and help them succeed both emotionally and academically. - - - - - Why EMDR? EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy for healing trauma and emotional distress. It works by using bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements, tapping, or sounds—to help the brain reprocess difficult experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming in the present. But EMDR isn’t just about revisiting the past—it begins with building safety. A core part of the EMDR process is resourcing: developing calming tools, imagery, and inner strengths that help you stay grounded and supported both in and out of session. I place strong emphasis on this phase of therapy, because it allows us to create a sense of emotional stability before we begin any deeper processing work. These resources aren’t just for therapy—they’re tools you can carry into daily life, helping you manage stress, triggers, and uncertainty with more confidence. EMDR is uniquely effective because it doesn’t require clients to go into detail about the trauma. There's no homework. The healing happens in the room, through guided work at your own pace, in a space where you feel safe and supported. EMDR can be effective in treating: • PTSD • Depression • Anxiety • Chronic Pain • Violence and Abuse • Grief and Loss To learn more, visit EMDRIA.org. - - - - - Education • M.A. in Counseling – Loyola Marymount University, 2013 • CA Multiple Subject Teaching Credential – Loyola Marymount University, 2009 • B.A. in Liberal Studies with minors in Education and History – Loyola Marymount University, 2008
