This can be especially difficult when you are also dealing with assimilation and/ or acculturation , the low or high expectations from family, the community, or merely existing in a black or brown body in a majority white state, neighborhood, school, or job. Even though you are resilient, accomplished, and successful you look at yourself and believe you are not enough, not worthy enough, or an imposter. You often avoid authentically connecting due to the fear that you may truly be seen and ultimately rejected. You believe that the amount you produce equals your worth. You fear that you will never connect and have the relationships you desire. The you that was curious and compassionate, before the wounds, pain, and trauma you have endured, created ways to adapt, survive, and protect you. I will encourage you to nurture a relationship with your spirit, to become grounded, mindful, empowered, connected to your body, and begin guiding yourself toward a holistic relationship with yourself and your community. I will assist you in seeing through the eyes of your spirit with compassion, love, creativity, and clarity. I embrace a non-pathologizing, culturally affirming, and liberation-based psychology. I use an integrative approach with a reliance on evidence-based practices and the voice of wisdom from our ancestors. You will be liberated from the oppressive story you believe about yourself and move toward the healing you envision.
