Introduction

With over 25 years as a cellist in the world-famous Cleveland Orchestra, Martha Baldwin brings an insider's understanding to the world of high-stakes performance. Her performing career, paired with graduate education in Sport and Performance Psychology and specialized training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), shapes a practice built on lived experience and clinical expertise. Martha works with athletes, musicians, and performing artists of all ages who strive to perform at their best - not by eliminating pressure, but by changing their relationship to it. Sessions draw on experiential work, mindfulness training, and age-appropriate interventions tailored to where a client is in their development. With a specialty in the Yips and Focal Dystonia, Martha is active in the research community for psychological interventions for these conditions and works with a wide-range of medical, psychological, and sport/instrument-specific coaches and teachers to support her clients who are facing this challenge. She is currently co-writing a book on focal dystonia and related issues in musicians. Above all, Martha brings compassion and a deep love of performance to her work believing that the goal isn't to fix what's gone wrong, but to help performers rediscover freedom and joy in what they do. Martha holds degrees from Rice University, The Cleveland Institute of Music, and the University of Western States.
