Mary is a Licensed Professional Counselor who utilizes client-centered, cognitive behavioral, expressive arts based, and culturally competent approaches to therapy. Her experience includes supporting at-risk adults who suffered from substance use and co-occurring disorders such as depression, anxiety and PTSD. Mary enjoys working with a wide range of client concerns including trauma, life transitions, relationship concerns, and substance use disorders. Additionally, Mary includes spiritual meaning-making for clients desiring to explore the connection of spirituality with mental health. She also incorporates solution-focused approaches to work with each client's therapeutic goals. Mary received her MA in Pastoral Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marymount University, and her BA in Psychology from George Mason University. Mary’s style is client-centered, in order to prioritize the client’s voice in how they perceive the problem is significantly impacting their life. Her therapy approach is semi-formal interview, with opportunities for in-session cognitive-behavioral activities, depending on what the client needs to process. The intake session is for background purposes and initial rapport-building. The intake and following sessions are increased opportunities for the client to ask their own questions, as well as elaborate on themselves (i.e, what did they do this week, what updates do they have on the problem, etc.).
