Matthew McLain is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 9 years of experience working in the mental health field. Matt is here to help you navigate life’s ups and downs with a warm and understanding approach. Together, Matt believes we can explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgmental space – with a little bit of humor to make the journey a bit lighter. While he specializes in working with teens(12-17) with self-harming behaviors, anxiety and depression, he also loves working with a wide range of clients of all ages and presenting concerns. The main approaches he uses in therapy are Motivational Interviewing, CBT, Adlerian, Behavioral and Person Centered. Matt holds a dual masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Forensic and Legal Psychology from Marymount University, right here in VA. While originally from NY, Matt's been in the NOVA area since 2019. Other passions he pursues in his free time are lifting, skiing, being in nature, video games and traveling the world.
