The term "male survivor” refers to a man or boy who has experienced sexual abuse or assault. This term emphasizes the recognition and support of their experiences, highlighting the importance of acknowledging their journey towards healing and recovery. It challenges societal stereotypes and stigmas associated with male survivors, advocating for their inclusion in conversations about sexual violence and the need for dedicated resources and support systems. I’ve been a licensed psychologist since 1992 and wrote my PhD thesis on the topic of male survivors of childhood sexual abuse. I even published a book about it, The Male Survivor. I have worked with about 400 male survivors. Over the years, I’ve gained a deep understanding of what survivors go through and how best to help. My years of experience really do help me guide clients toward healing with insight and empathy. Before PSYPACT, many male survivors seeking specialized therapy were limited to local psychologists. My expertise in helping male survivors of childhood sexual abuse is rare, and only those who could drive to my Raleigh, NC office were able to benefit. Now, with PSYPACT, I’m excited to offer telehealth services to individuals in 43 states, providing access to the expert care you need, no matter where you live. This new opportunity allows me to help more survivors on their journey to healing, regardless of their location.
