Hi, I’m Matt Permuy, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. My interest in mental health care began while working in clinical research across hospitals and medical institutions. Through that work, I noticed that much of the focus in clinical trials centered on physical outcomes, with limited attention given to participants’ emotional and mental well being. This experience sparked my passion for understanding how mental and physical health are deeply interconnected, and how both deserve equal care when addressing illness and healing. Alongside this, I have developed a strong passion for working with generational and intergenerational trauma, and for helping individuals understand how family history, cultural context, and inherited patterns can shape present day experiences, relationships, and emotional well being. I hold both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University. My professional background includes work in nonprofit settings serving diverse populations. I have experience supporting individuals who are navigating a wide range of life challenges. My therapeutic approach is grounded in humanistic, person centered care. I view therapy as a collaborative journey, where you are the expert on your life and I walk alongside you for support and guidance. I take a strengths based approach and draw from a variety of modalities—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and psychodynamic approaches—to create a safe, supportive, and non judgmental space. My focus is to help clients build the insight, confidence, and tools they need to navigate life independently. Therapy is not meant to last forever; rather, it’s a place to grow, heal, and gain skills that empower you to move forward and reconnect with the life you want to live. I believe that meaningful change begins when a person feels truly seen and heard. When clients are able to combine therapeutic tools with their own inner wisdom, growth becomes possible. I’m honored to support you on that journey and to walk with you as you take this courageous step toward healing.
