Hello. my name is Matt (or Matthew, if you'd rather get technical about it). I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in St. Louis, Missouri, and also licensed in Nebraska and Minnesota. I believe therapy is less about fixing what's broken and more about getting reacquainted with yourself: the stories you tell about who you are, the patterns you keep repeating, and the parts of you working overtime to keep you and your loved ones safe. Sometimes that means grappling with big questions of identity and purpose; other times it's simply finding the next step when the path forward isn't clear. My approach draws on Narrative Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, among others. Together, we might separate you from a story you've inherited, get curious about an inner critic or a part that shows up at the worst moments, or catch an unhelpful thought pattern so you can redirect or question it. Underneath it all is my belief that you're the best author of your own life — my job is to help you read, and rewrite, your story more clearly. I work with individual adults and couples committed to breaking the loops that leave them feeling alienated or misunderstood, and I particularly enjoy working with men navigating their relationships: the roles they've chosen, the roles they've inherited, and the gap between the two. With directness, warmth, and honesty about what's happening in the room, I help clients move from feeling like a passenger in their lives to feeling like they're driving.
