Introduction
Aloha. My name is Melanie Kushi. Welcome to my practice, Ho'omana Psychological Services. In Hawaiian, Ho’omana means “to empower” and it represents who I am and what I stand for. It is my personal philosophy and part of my life’s purpose in serving others. Ho’omana for me captures the power we all have in us and evokes a sense of taking control and owning that power. It has been a catalyst in my own healing process which has led me into the field of psychology so that I may help others. Being born and raised in Hawaii, has taught me the value of connection with others despite differences that may exist. It was ingrained in me to always respect and help others, to be humble, and to express appreciation and gratitude. These qualities have been the driving force in my motivation to help others and has been influential in my career path, my humanistic beliefs and values, and the way in which I conduct myself professionally and personally. I work from a humanistic and experiential approach which integrates eclectic strategies and interventions to individualize treatment plans and meet the unique needs of individuals from diverse populations while creating a safe space to explore and heal. My therapeutic style embraces authenticity, sincerity, and genuineness and entails guiding individuals toward stepping into themselves; their light; and their fullest potential through a supportive and collaborative process.
