Melissa Ylst

LCSW Redwood Family Therapy
Specialties: Anxiety, Depression, Trauma

Introduction

Melissa is dedicated to helping clients of all ages build a deeper understanding and acceptance of themselves while navigating life’s challenges. She works entirely online, offering a supportive and creative space where clients can explore their emotions, mental health, and engage in self-discovery. While she often uses expressive therapies like art, music, and storytelling, Melissa tailors her approach to each client, always prioritizing their needs and preferences. Drawing from somatic and expressive therapy principles, Melissa encourages clients to connect with their inner world, fostering healing and growth through an awareness of the mind-body connection. She also utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients gain clarity about their thoughts and emotions, supporting positive change and resilience. Melissa’s work spans all ages, but she has a particular focus on guiding teens and young adults through life transitions, identity exploration, and challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma, and self-esteem. Melissa earned her Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from Utah Valley University. During her studies, she worked with diverse populations at the Utah County Jail and the Children’s Justice Center, which shaped her holistic and personalized approach to therapy. When she’s not working, Melissa enjoys spending time outdoors, discovering new interests, and making art. She loves connecting with friends and family and is always up for a creative project. Melissa is currently living in Taiwan, where she continues to embrace new cultural experiences and inspirations for her work. Whether it’s through art, new adventures, or a good scary movie, she thrives on creativity and connection.
