Introduction

Helping Clients Thrive We’re all on a journey called Life. This journey includes many routes, re-routes, detours, and crossroad decisions. The journey is typically more enjoyable with traveling companions. I see my role as a therapist as such, a traveling companion who can help you understand the journey better. This includes an examination of the unnecessary, outdated, or otherwise ineffective tools being used that continue to get you to the funny twists and dangers of the road. We will properly repack the backpack with more useful supplies and gadgets. We can splint mental injuries to help facilitate the healing process. You will be faced with challenges along the way, but you will develop the courage and confidence to face these challenges in a new way. Practically speaking, I believe people do better when they feel safe enough to make a change and when they feel connected with others who support that change. This is true whether problems have a more clinical, pathological origin, or whether they are more situational or temporary. Any change will bring some level of ambivalence or uncertainty about what all this entails. I put a lot of emphasis on the relational part of counseling. I want to ensure that I create a safe place for you to learn and practice new techniques. I want you to feel safe enough to express yourself openly, and I will provide encouragement through a lens of normalizing, without judgment, to help build that safe environment. I also want to help foster a connection to self and others to gain the support needed for change. I will actively listen to you to gain understanding, provide compassion and empathy, and use reflection to help guide you along the way. There will be emotional risks and challenges, but in the confines of a safe, therapeutic environment, you will be able to process any complicated or confusing aspects of the change within the context of a trusting relationship.
