Introduction

Michelle L. Chaney is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC-AD), ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) with dual supervision status in Maryland, as well as a clinically informed Grief and Trauma therapist. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, a double major, in Psychology and Sociology from State University of New York (SUNY) with a focus on Human Growth and Development and an emphasis in Adolescent Psychological development. While at SUNY she earned the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. She completed a year of a Master of Science in Clinical Community Counseling at Chaminade University, in Honolulu Hawaii, and obtained a Master Arts degree in Human Sciences at Hood College in Frederick Maryland. She completed a Postmaster Certificate in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Johns Hopkins University where she was also inducted into the Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Honor Society. Her approach is Humanistic. She utilizes Existential, Emotional Focused, Attachment, Cognitive Behavioral, and Reality Therapies to support personal growth and learning to live life with grace while embracing fear that is accustomed to life’s adversities. Michelle understands as emotional and social beings; we thrive from the secure attachment and emotional connections we have with others. She is aware that sometimes those connections become strained or disconnected and we feel alone and questioning our sense of worth. Therefore, she possesses extensive knowledge and is highly skilled in the areas counseling that includes pedagogical related skills and abilities. As a Certified Chemical Addiction Counselor (CAC-AD) she can assist those struggling with substance misuse and abuse. As an ADHD Clinical Service Provider (ADHD-CCSP) she understands the complexities of this neurobiological disorder and can assist in developing ways to increase manageability of bothersome symptoms. As a Certified Grief Informed Professional (CGP) she can assist those who have experienced life changing losses that disrupt daily routines and relationships. Michele is an EAP Affiliate and able to accept most EAP referrals to provide information on various community-based resources. In addition, she can address mood disorders such as depression, anxiety, dual diagnosis and support those with chronic illnesses. Other areas of practice include survivors of intimate partner violence (domestic violence), and anger management. Currently, she is the owner of Healthy Connections Counseling, LLC, since 2017, a mental health counseling service provider conducting telehealth throughout the state of Maryland.
