Introduction

Dr. Miriam began her psychology career at the Doctoral level in August 2016 conducting therapy and psychological assessment with children, adolescents, adults, seniors, and families in a private practice setting. Dr. Miriam has also worked at the Master’s level since 2013 in a variety of other settings conducting group and individual therapy, as well as psychological testing. These settings included multiple state and federal prison settings, VA hospital, and private practice. Dr. Miriam is a Fully Licensed Psychologist (NC license # 5355), and a Health Services Provider (HSP). She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2009 from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. She then obtained a Master of Arts in Psychology in 2013 and a Doctor of Psychology degree in 2016 from Spalding University in Louisville, KY. Dr. Miriam has had therapy experience with many age ranges and across diverse settings. She has conducted art, play-therapy, sand-tray therapy, and cognitive behavioral trauma-focused therapy with preschool, elementary, and middle school aged children, as well as adolescents. Regarding adults, she has extensive experience conducting individual and group therapy with men and women in correctional and private practice settings, which has afforded her with a high level of skill in working with personality disorders, depression and anxiety, obsessive-compulsive related disorders, trauma-related disorders, grief and loss, and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. She is especially passionate about working with OCD-related disorders, personality disorders, and trauma disorders. Dr. Miriam has also performed numerous psychological assessments for children and adults with diagnoses such as autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities, learning disorders, attention-deficit disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, and trauma disorders. She has also completed psychological evaluations for children for school settings in Spanish. Additional adult assessment experience has also included working with veterans with psychological and neurological disorders and conducting forensic evaluations for federal court. While Dr. Miriam enjoys performing a combination of therapy and assessment, her true passion is individual and group therapy. She operates from a mix of cognitive-behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavioral (DBT), and acceptance-commitment (ACT) treatment modalities, delivered from a warm, empathetic style full of her own unique (and often corny) sense of humor. Dr. Miriam is particularly well versed at treating OCD and PTSD; using specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) as well as Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Dr. Miriam takes great enjoyment in seeing her clients progress in treatment, and she views her role as empowering and motivating her clients to grow and make changes. She feels it is a privilege and joy to be able to guide and witness her clients navigate challenges successfully. Dr. Miriam grew up overseas for a total of 15 years in Kenya, Madagascar, and the Seychelles islands in the Indian Ocean, and retains a love for travel and culture. For rainy days, she enjoys painting canvas, dancing around the house, binging Netflix, and curling up with a good book next to two black cats. When the sun is shining, she loves to kayak and bicycle with her husband in the beautiful NC outdoors.
