Introduction

Welcome — I’m Monica Maher, LCSW. I’m a licensed clinical social worker, EMDR therapist, reunification therapist, and clinical educator with over a decade of experience in trauma treatment, child welfare, and mental health care. My journey into this work began in the field of child protection and forensic social work, where I witnessed the long-term impact that unresolved trauma, abuse, and family conflict can have on individuals and families. I knew early on that I wanted to help survivors not only stabilize but truly heal — and that meant learning how to treat trauma at its root. Over time, my work expanded to include both clinical practice and teaching, where I now also serve as an adjunct professor of social work and sociology, helping train the next generation of professionals in trauma-informed care and child advocacy. In my private practice, I specialize in treating adults with Complex PTSD (C-PTSD), PTSD, grief, adjustment issues, and long-standing effects of sexual abuse, childhood trauma, or relational violence. I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to support healing of the nervous system, reprocessing of trauma, and reconnection with a sense of personal safety and identity. I also offer Reunification Therapy — a structured, clinical intervention for families impacted by high-conflict custody issues, estrangement, or prolonged separation. This work involves helping parents and children rebuild trust and communication, while remaining child-focused, neutral, and informed by trauma and attachment theory. I hold certifications in both Reunification Therapy and Abuse Allegations in Family Court Cases, and I am experienced in navigating court-involved and family systems with sensitivity and professionalism. Above all, I believe that therapy should be a space where you feel safe, seen, and supported — where your story is honored and where healing feels possible. Whether you're coming to therapy to process trauma, rebuild relationships, or find your footing again after a difficult life event, my goal is to help you move forward with clarity, empowerment, and compassion.
