As a society, it feels like we're wired to always be on the run and "multi-tasking." It's overwhelming and drives constant anxiety. Add on top of that we're stuck in the same election of 4 years ago and the reminders of that chaos. Eventually our bodies say ENOUGH! and shut down to a depressive state to conserve energy. Then introduce something we find to make us feel better, and our tendency to overuse and abuse. I'm the rare mental health professional who is a licensed substance abuse counselor, MFT, and 14 years into my own recovery. I understand all too well the drive to just escape and to somehow, someway try and feel better. I've worked at premiere facilities such as Hoag Hospital and the Betty Ford Clinic. Working with the underlying mental health issues which have driven addictive tendencies as a coping mechanism have been a specialty. I have experience working with veterans and their families, and I'm from a law enforcement family. I'm also part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
