A History of Innovation and Integrated Care Outpatient Behavioral Health (OBH) began in 2022 as Utah's first comprehensive clinic for PTSD screening, assessment, and treatment integrated with medical cannabis. This was a direct response to Utah's legalization of medical cannabis, where PTSD was and continues to be the sole qualifying mental health condition and the second most common qualifying condition overall. Led by Clifton R. Uckerman, LCSW, a respected community advocate, educator, and mentor, our Salt Lake City private group practice quickly recognized the need for a more holistic approach. We believe our work has been instrumental in increasing the number of PTSD medical cannabis cardholders to over 7,000, representing roughly 10% of the more prominent chronic pain cardholders. We also believe that our focus on PTSD has helped to prevent the over-diagnosis of chronic pain as a qualifying condition for those who are truly struggling with mental health challenges. More than two years later, OBH has evolved, driven by data and a commitment to success. We are now the only clinic in Utah treating c-PTSD, Cluster B personality disorders, and mild to moderate substance use disorders together. Our evidence-based approach is holistic, compassionate, and rooted in the latest neuroscience research, focusing on the underlying traumas that contribute to a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. We recognize that personality disorders are often deeply associated with trauma and c-PTSD. Our treatment model specifically addresses this connection in the following ways: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD): We understand the strong link between BPD and childhood trauma, including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Our approach helps individuals with BPD regulate emotions, build a stable sense of self, and navigate relationships that have been shaped by these early traumatic experiences. Dependent Personality Disorder (DPD): Our therapy addresses the link between DPD and childhood neglect or abandonment, helping patients develop a stronger sense of independence and self-worth. Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD): We work with individuals with AvPD to process past emotional abuse or bullying, helping them overcome social inhibition and the fear of rejection. Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD): We explore the roots of ASPD in childhood trauma, such as neglect, abuse, or exposure to violence, and work to address the underlying issues that contribute to a disregard for others' rights and well-being. Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD): We help individuals with NPD understand how trauma, such as emotional neglect or excessive criticism, can lead to narcissistic defenses like grandiosity, and work with them to develop healthier coping mechanisms. We work collaboratively with each patient to design an individualized, trauma-focused treatment plan. Our mission is to provide support for diverse communities, including those who may have felt marginalized by the mental health system in the past, offering a range of therapeutic techniques to help them process and overcome past traumas. We're proud to offer the following cornerstone programs, which reflect our commitment to patient-preferred, alternative, and integrated healing practices: Progress Panel: Collaborate on your treatment plan with a team of dedicated professionals.
