Introduction

Rachel graduated from The University of Colorado, Denver with a Master of Arts in Counseling and a concentration in Clinical Mental Health. During graduate school, she gained experience working with clients at the university’s counseling center and then at a group practice that served children, adolescents and their caregivers. It was through this experience that Rachel’s desire to work with caregivers was ignited and she is very excited to continue this work at the Parent and Family Wellness Center. Rachel sees caregivers as the heart of the family system and is passionate about holding a mirror to reflect back their unique strengths to help them foster connection, play and confidence within their lives. Rachel’s training and clinical approach as a therapist is rooted in feminist theory in which she strives to create collaborative, egalitarian relationships with clients that acknowledge and allow space to unpack the impact of systems of oppression. Rachel also draws from Internal Family Systems to help clients identify the various parts of themselves that developed to cope with life’s challenges, Narrative therapy to understand client’s unique life stories and Attachment theory to inform how a client can work towards building relational safety. Beyond her theoretical foundations, Rachel believes that the heart of every strong therapist - client relationship is one filled with compassion, empathy, a little humor and creativity. Outside of session, you can find Rachel nourishing her mind and soul with daily dog walks with her two rescues, time in nature, attending dance classes and working her way through her latest Pinterest inspired DIY project.
