Randy's background is as dynamic as his approach to therapy. Before becoming a mental health counselor, he gained invaluable real-world experience through his service in the U.S. Coast Guard and as a sales manager in the technology industry. This unique journey laid the foundation for his B.S. in Developmental Psychology, which he followed with an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University, specializing in neuroscience and marriage and family therapies. He is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina. At New Mentality, Randy works with individuals, couples, and families to address challenges ranging from anxiety and depression to complex relational issues. He has a passion for teaching practical, lasting skills and runs popular workshops on communication, relational skills, and effective coping for parents and couples. Randy's clinical foundation is rooted in evidence-based practice, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Through these modalities, clients master the core skills of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Furthermore, he is deeply committed to couples work, trained as a Level 1 Gottman Couples Method Clinician and certified in SYMBIS and Prepare/Enrich for pre-marital and relationship enhancement counseling.
