Introduction

Renee Rouse is currently a master’s level intern completing her graduate degree in counseling from Southern Methodist University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Health and Society from The University of Texas at Austin. Renee’s counseling skills are complemented by her undergraduate training which focused on understanding how people’s overall health is impacted by their physical environment, relationships, and other social factors. She also gained transferable experience and skills from years working with and mentoring adolescents and college students, enriching her knowledge of crucial developmental periods. Renee believes that each person is best understood within the context of their relationships, societal and cultural influences, and their internal world. In session, you will collaborate to uncover how these different elements of your life are connected to each other and to your emotions, thoughts, and actions. Bringing warmth and empathy, Renee supports you in addressing your counseling goals by helping you identify important patterns and implement helpful adjustments. Renee works with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She is passionate about walking with clients through life transitions, relational issues, intrapersonal challenges (e.g., self-image, identity, questioning values/beliefs), career exploration and transition, anxiety, depression, and grief. She believes in fostering the relational safety needed for clients to explore their experiences and emotions. Renee also aims to support clients in building self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and mindfulness skills in order to bolster their mental health and emotional resilience outside of counseling. To that end, Renee is trained in NeurOptimal® neurofeedback and Safe Conversations, offering her clients additional modalities and specific skills to achieve their counseling goals. She is also a Prepare & Enrich facilitator to support pre-engagement, pre-marriage, and seasoned couples.
