Most people who find their way here are high-functioning — successful by most measures, but quietly exhausted underneath. Maybe you can’t turn your mind off. Maybe old experiences keep showing up in ways you can’t explain. Maybe you’ve pushed through for so long that pushing through stopped working. That’s not weakness. That’s a nervous system that has been carrying too much for too long. Traditional talk therapy helps many people — but insight alone doesn’t always create change. Many of the experiences that keep us stuck are stored deep in the nervous system, below conscious thought. That’s why you can understand something logically and still feel completely stuck. At Renewed Mind Therapy, I use brain-body approaches Brainspotting and The Memory Resolution Technique (TMRT) — to help you access and process what talk therapy alone sometimes can’t reach. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting what happened and needing to talk about everything that happened. It means it no longer controls you. I also have training in CBT, DBT skills, and IFS-informed therapy. WHAT IS BRAINSPOTTING Why Brainspotting — and why does it work? Brainspotting is a brain-body therapy developed by therapist David Grand. It works by identifying specific eye positions — called brainspots — that are connected to where stress, trauma, and emotional experience are stored neurologically. By holding attention on these points, the brain can do what it was designed to do: process, deactivate, and heal — without requiring you to talk through every detail. Brainspotting may be especially helpful if you are: • A professional or leader carrying significant responsibility • An athlete dealing with performance blocks, injury recovery, or competition anxiety • A first responder or military member managing the weight of what you’ve seen • Anyone healing from trauma, grief, burnout, or anxiety that hasn’t responded to talk therapy alone What clients often notice after Brainspotting: Greater emotional clarity · Decreased anxiety · Improved sleep · Sharper focus · Feeling lighter · Performance gains MEET YOUR THERAPIST Athena Kjell, MS, NCC, LPC, SAC I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Brainspotting practitioner based in Hartland, WI — and I founded Renewed Mind Therapy because I believe high-achieving people deserve care that actually keeps up with them. Brainspotting evolved from EMDR but works differently. Rather than moving the eyes back and forth, Brainspotting holds the gaze at a specific point connected to the experience being processed. Many people find it gentler and easier to tolerate. Q: Do I have to talk about everything in detail? No. One of the reasons Brainspotting works well for trauma is that you don’t need to narrate every detail for processing to happen. Your nervous system does much of the work. Q: What does a first session look like? We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, what you want to work toward, and whether Brainspotting or another approach is the right fit.
