Roots of Regulation Counseling is a trauma-informed group therapy practice located in Mokena, Illinois. We provide in-person therapy for children, teens, adults, couples, and families, along with telehealth for clients throughout Illinois. At Roots, we believe that people make sense. Emotions, behaviors, and patterns that may feel confusing or frustrating often developed for a reason. Rather than asking, “What is wrong with you?” we are more interested in understanding what happened, what your nervous system learned, and what you need now. Our work is grounded in connection, curiosity, compassion, and accountability. We do not believe therapy is about fixing people or asking them to become someone entirely different. It is about helping people understand themselves with less shame, recognize the protective patterns that have helped them survive, and build greater flexibility, safety, and connection within themselves and their relationships. Our clinicians bring specialized experience in trauma, EMDR, anxiety, depression, attachment, neurodivergence, nervous-system regulation, relationships, addiction, maternal and perinatal mental health, child and adolescent development, identity, life transitions, and parent support. Our approaches include attachment-based therapy, Polyvagal Theory, EMDR, somatic interventions, parts work, mindfulness, CBT, DBT, and other relational and evidence-informed practices. Treatment is always individualized because there is no single approach that works for every person. Roots is an inclusive and affirming practice. We welcome people across identities, cultures, family structures, relationship structures, spiritual backgrounds, and lived experiences. We recognize that healing does not happen outside the context of relationships, communities, cultures, and systems. Our goal is to create a space where clients feel genuinely seen, respected, supported, and able to show up as their whole selves. We also believe quality trauma-informed care should be accessible across income levels. Roots accepts several commercial insurance plans as well as Illinois Medicaid and Medicaid Managed Care plans. Our team works collaboratively to help connect each person with a therapist whose experience, personality, availability, and therapeutic approach fit their needs.
