Hello, my name is Rose. I am an Internal Family Systems therapist specializing in emotional neglect and attunement deficits. The effects of emotional neglect in adults look like the following: Chronic shame and self-blame Over-functioning, over responsible, and perfectionistic Difficulty knowing, naming and fulfilling needs Low self-esteem - "not enoughness" Intense feelings of loneliness and insecurity Feelings like the world isn't a safe place, and you will not be safe in the future, difficulty trusting and being open to other people These symptoms point to deeper, unfelt, unseen psychological wounds often related to emotional misattunement in childhood. I firmly believe all parents do the best they can, and some do a pretty good job. That doesn't mean there wasn't a significant emotional impact on you that is manifesting as mental health issues as an adult. Healing these wounds is scary, emotionally painful and difficult, and in some ways, the hardest thing some of us ever have to do. Please do not do it alone. I am not a "sit and listen" therapist. I will ask you to go deeper. I will ask you to face hard things. I will gently challenge, redirect, and sometimes even interrupt you. I will be with you every step of the way as you start to understand the pieces inside you that are hurting and need your love and attention. I know personally the courage and vulnerability needed to make therapy effective, and I will support you as you meet your inner wounds. I offer all new clients a free first session. Come in person to my office, meet with me and see how it feels. If you decide its a good fit, great! You (or your insurance) will be charged for the session and following sessions. If you decide it's not right, no worries, and no charge. I also offer reduced fee agreements for clients who are out of network or who are financially struggling. Please ask me about what accommodations can be made. I can also provide superbills for clients who are out of network. Outside of therapy I love fantasy novels, board games, skiing and hiking, and my lovely family and friends. I also enjoy working with other members of the helping professions, through therapy and consultation, who are struggling with countertransference that may or may not be related to their own emotional neglect.
