Hello, I'm Rosie Abernethy, MA, MSW, LCSW, a British psychotherapist licensed in New York and California. Life is complicated. Relationships can be even more so. Sometimes, despite being intelligent, capable and outwardly successful, we find ourselves overthinking, repeating familiar patterns or feeling inexplicably stuck. My approach is collaborative, direct and down-to-earth, drawing on psychodynamic and attachment-based perspectives alongside CBT, ACT and DBT. I work with anxiety, depression, perfectionism, trauma, relationship difficulties, life transitions and the complexities of identity and self-worth. Not all anxiety is irrational. Political instability, climate change, financial uncertainty and concerns about the future raise genuine existential questions, particularly for younger adults. Therapy isn't about pretending these concerns don't exist, but finding perspective, resilience and meaning amid uncertainty. I also work with professionals, executives and high-net-worth individuals who value discretion, confidentiality and an understanding of the pressures that can accompany success, visibility and responsibility. Expect thoughtful conversation, honest feedback, practical strategies and, when appropriate, a little dry British humour. I won't simply nod sympathetically or suggest that positive thinking fixes everything. In-person psychotherapy in New York City and secure video sessions throughout New York and California.
