Sarah Massey, M.A., MFTC, is the owner and heart behind Roots Counseling. She believes deeply that therapy is about more than managing symptoms or “getting through” hard moments—it’s about understanding where pain comes from and creating real, lasting change from the inside out. Sarah works with clients who want to feel more connected to themselves, their relationships, and their lives, even when things feel heavy, confusing, or overwhelming. Sarah brings a grounded, compassionate presence to the therapy room. She understands that reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, and she strives to create a space where clients feel safe, respected, and genuinely cared for. Her approach is collaborative and relational, rooted in the belief that healing happens best within authentic, trusting connections. Sarah meets clients where they are, honoring their pace and their story, while gently helping them explore deeper patterns, emotions, and experiences that may be keeping them stuck. Trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Sarah helps clients process traumatic or distressing experiences in a way that supports healing rather than re-traumatization. She is also trained in the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) model, which allows her to thoughtfully and compassionately support clients navigating suicidal thoughts. These approaches reflect Sarah’s commitment to providing care that is both evidence based and deeply human. At Roots Counseling, Sarah works with individuals, couples, and families facing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, and emotional burnout. She is especially passionate about helping clients who feel disconnected—from themselves, from others, or from a sense of purpose—find their way back to clarity, self-trust, and emotional safety. Sarah believes therapy should feel supportive and empowering, not intimidating, and that growth often begins with feeling truly seen and understood. Outside of her work as a therapist, Sarah is someone who finds joy and grounding in the outdoors and in connection. She loves being active and can often be found hiking, snowboarding, kayaking, or playing volleyball. She has a deep love for animals and finds restoration in nature, travel, and shared experiences with the people she cares about most. OFFICE LOCATION: 627 N. Weber Suite 3 Colorado Springs, CO 80903
