Introduction

Dr. Akers focuses on being collaborative, inclusive, respectful, and client-centered in which to explore and discuss challenges, issues experiences, and thoughts/emotions. He is committed to supporting and providing LGBTQ+ affirming care and supporting patients across diverse identities and experiences. Sean Akers, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist with specialized training in evidenced-based treatment for adolescents, young adults, and adults. Dr. Akers earned his doctorate in 1997 and practiced for the past 25 years at Children's Nebraska in various roles including Clinical Psychologist and Supervisor for Behavioral Health. Prior to beginning his private practice, Dr. Akers worked in the outpatient and hospital setting with kids, young adults, adults, and families navigating anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, grief, coping, peer issues, family conflict, as well as complex medical issues including cancer, diabetes, functional neurological disorder, and eating disorders. Dr. Akers therapeutic approach is primarily Cognitive Behavioral but also incorporates principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and family therapy. Treatment is tailored individually to each patient's needs, strengths and goals. Available for in person appointments within Clarity Psychological Health and is available for telehealth services when appropriate and desired.
