Introduction

Welcome to Shifa Therapy LLC, a space for healing. I'm Shalin (he/him), and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (in both NJ and PA), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (NY), Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (NJ), Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), and Level 1 IFS-trained therapist. I offer trauma-focused services that center the Global Majority, especially BIPOC folks within the LGBTQIA+ community across the states of New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. While I am based in northern NJ, all sessions are offered 100% virtually. My goal as your therapist is for you to be seen and understood as you are. No code-switching necessary. Throughout our work, I will invite you with patience and compassion, going at your pace as you build new adaptations toward thriving. I offer a relational approach that integrates Somatic Experiencing, IFS, EMDR, Liberation Psychology, traditional talk therapy, culture, identity, as well as the systemic, collective, intergenerational, and sociopolitical realities of life. Think of this as an immersive and experiential kind of process that goes beyond insight and coping skills. For NJ residents, I accept Cigna, Quest Behavioral Health, Horizon BC/BS (including all marketplace plans and employer-sponsored plans), and Aetna (including the student health plan offered at Princeton and other universities). For NY and PA residents, I accept Cigna (including the Wellfleet plans offered at NYU and other universities), Quest Behavioral Health, most non-marketplace BC/BS PPO plans (such as those from Anthem, Capital Blue Cross, CareFirst, Excellus, Highmark, Independence Blue Cross, etc.), and most PPO plans from Aetna. Unfortunately, I do not accept Medicare or Medicaid in any state. To see some of the issues that folks tend to bring into the therapy space and to schedule an initial consultation call, scroll down and tap the 'Request Appointment' button below. If there are no appointments available within the next two weeks, this means I have a waitlist for new clients. You can still use the 'Contact' button at the top of this page to join my waitlist after a brief consultation call. I look forward to meeting you!
