Introduction

My name is Shawna Smithbauer. I hold a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision and am a licensed professional counselor committed to providing thoughtful, compassionate care. I am dedicated to supporting clients with care, professionalism, and respect. I view counseling as a collaborative journey toward personal growth, healing, and overall wellness. Life can become overwhelming due to past trauma, current stressors, life transitions, and relationship challenges. As a counselor, I walk alongside you, supporting you in increasing well-being, fostering healing, and building a meaningful, values-driven life. My approach to counseling is genuine and warm, while also appropriately challenging to support growth and meaningful change. I use a trauma-informed, person-centered framework to create a safe, trusting environment where you feel accepted and understood. I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Reality Therapy, to address unhelpful patterns of thinking and support actionable steps toward your goals. I also work from a Biblical worldview, which can be thoughtfully integrated into counseling at your preference. I have been practicing counseling for over 10 years, working with adults, adolescents, and children experiencing many different life challenges.
