Introduction

For as long as I can remember, I've felt a little different—more comfortable asking questions than making small talk, more interested in understanding people than impressing them. Long before I became a therapist, I was the person who noticed when someone got talked over in a conversation. The person who leaned in and asked, "What happened next?" The person who was fascinated by the details of people's lives and the stories that shaped them. My own experiences with grief, loss, and loneliness deepened that curiosity. I know what it's like to carry something enormous and feel as though nobody else can see it. I know what it's like to wonder whether anyone truly understands. Those experiences didn't leave me with answers. They left me with a deep respect for the complexity of being human. As a therapist, I'm less interested in judging people's choices than I am in understanding them. Most of us make perfect sense once our stories are told fully. The anxiety, the self-doubt, the relationship struggles, the grief, the patterns we can't seem to break—there's usually a reason they're there. My goal isn't simply to help clients feel heard. It's to help them feel known. Whether you're carrying grief, questioning who you are, feeling stuck in old patterns, or trying to make sense of experiences that still affect you years later, therapy can be a place where you don't have to explain everything from the beginning. A place where your story is allowed to be complicated. A place where someone is willing to stay curious with you. And if your story has been interrupted more times than you can count, I may be the kind of therapist who asks, "What happened next?"
