Introduction

Therapy works better when you can actually be yourself. I’m Stephanie Devereux, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri. I work with adults and couples who may understand what they should do but still find themselves repeating patterns that aren’t working for them. I don’t see therapy as a place where you have to say the right things, have everything figured out, or perform therapy “correctly.” My style is informal, collaborative, and very human. I want to understand who you are, what you’ve experienced, and how you learned to see yourself, other people, and the world around you. We’ll make room to process what you’re feeling, but we don’t have to stop there. I’m interested in helping you understand why you think, feel, and respond the way you do—and what keeps those patterns going. From there, we can work on new perspectives, practical tools, and different ways of responding. I tend to ask clients to pay attention to what happens between sessions: notice patterns, monitor thoughts and reactions, reflect on what comes up, and journal when it’s useful. Therapy isn’t limited to what happens during the hour we spend together. Some of the most important work happens when you begin noticing these patterns in your everyday life. I’ll support you, but I’ll also challenge you when I think it may be helpful. If we’ve identified something you want to change, I’m going to help you keep moving toward it. You can expect honesty, curiosity, humor when appropriate, and a therapist who is genuinely engaged in the work with you. I earned my MA in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri. My approach is integrative and draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Schema Therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, relationship theory, and Brainspotting. I work with concerns including anxiety and overthinking, self-worth and shame, boundaries and relationship patterns, alcohol and substance use, men’s mental health, trauma, life changes, and relationship concerns. I also work with couples experiencing communication difficulties, recurring conflict, disconnection, trust concerns, or infidelity. The goal isn’t just to understand your life better. It’s to use that understanding to help you live it differently.
