Hi, I’m Stephanie Coombs, Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW). I am originally from Chicago, but moved to Idaho in 2021 when my social work journey began at Brigham Young University-Idaho. I studied social work for my bachelor’s degree and was able to work as an intern in the community through the school district and the probation office. I then continued my education through University of Kentucky, where I received my Master’s in clinical social work. While in my master’s program I also had the opportunity to work in the foster care system with children of all ages. Additionally, I was able to intern in a counseling office where I worked with clients experiencing things such as depression, anxiety, OCD, perfectionist tendencies, stress, and family trauma. I also was able to work with many individuals from the LGBTQ+ community. I am passionate about social justice, mental health care, and providing care and support to all those who need it. In my free time I love to be with friends and family, cook, travel, read, and listen to music. In my practice, I prefer to apply a variety of therapeutic modalities to uniquely meet client’s needs. Some techniques I most often utilize include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), psychoeducation, client-centered therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, strength-based techniques, skill-building and coping strategies. The goal in my approach is to create a warm, empathetic environment where clients can feel safe and heard. I believe in the strength of each individual client and will collaborate with them to find a therapeutic approach that they feel good about.
