Introduction

Welcome! I’m Stephen P. Sweeney, MSN, APRN-CNP, PMHNP-BC, LNC, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and certified psychopharmacologist. At Turned Leaf Psychiatry, we believe your story matters much more than your symptoms. We aren’t just treating a diagnosis; we are supporting a whole person. How I Got Started My path to founding Turned Leaf Psychiatry wasn't planned—it grew entirely out of a commitment to patient advocacy. While serving as a Director of Nursing and the sole prescriber for intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, I noticed a frustrating trend: many complex patients struggled to find reliable, ongoing care after being discharged. Unwilling to let my patients slide backward, I began seeing them on weekends pro bono. That joy of serving others, combined with a move back home to Mississippi to be closer to family, sparked a mission. I partnered with local therapy practices and organizations like the Sunnybrook Children’s Home to care for vulnerable populations, and Turned Leaf Psychiatry was born. I love watching my patients' lives transform—turning withered leaves into vibrant, fruit-bearing trees. Areas of Specialization I provide innovative, innovative psychiatric treatments for patients across the lifespan, specializing in: Complex Psychiatry: Comprehensive management of mood, thought, and personality disorders, as well as complex conditions with medical comorbidities. Precision Medicine: Utilizing pharmacogenomic testing (GeneSight) to take the guesswork out of medication management and tailor treatments specifically to your DNA. Targeted Therapies & Addiction Medicine: Incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for dual-diagnosis substance use disorders. Long-Acting Injectables: Specialized treatment for thought disorders and schizophrenia. The Impact of Our Care Mental health care shouldn't feel rushed or clinical. When you work with me, you can expect a modern, patient-first approach designed to make an impact: Time to Talk: I intentionally schedule extra time for every visit. You will always be listened to, never rushed. All-in-One Convenience: We handle your evaluation, specialized testing, and prescriptions all in a single visit. Care Anywhere: To make mental health care truly accessible, I offer comprehensive telehealth services across Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia, and Kansas via video, phone, or text-based support. Whatever you are walking through, I am here to meet you exactly where you are and help you start your next chapter. Let’s turn the leaf together.
