Introduction

In a way, therapy is very simple. We just sit and talk to each other. On another level, it’s not simple at all. We work together to figure out why you are getting stuck and how to get you un-stuck—a process that takes time and care. On a deeper level still, I accompany you—walk beside you—come what may. Sometimes just having someone be alongside you as you go through life, with no particular goal of changing you, can transform things the most. I’ve worked with people from all different walks of life—folks who are barely making ends meet and folks with big houses; transgender women and nonbinary folks; people who identify as conservative and radical leftists. I am especially interested in working with people who feel trapped in some way—whether literally trapped by incarceration; trapped by things you have done or things that have been done to you; trapped by poverty or feelings of hopelessness. At the moment, I specialize in working with men, but I will gladly talk to clients of all genders about the possibility of working together. I grew up in a male-dominated context, and have worked as a therapist, chaplain, and teacher with clients in jails, universities, the streets, in small towns, cities, and in the arts. It isn’t easy for any of us to be human, and men have particular struggles they often don’t have anyone to talk about. If you think we might be a good fit, I offer a free conversation where we can get to know each other a little bit and consider working together.
