Trust and safety are two critical components I strive to create in the therapeutic setting so that all persons, regardless of their life experiences, learn to embrace their resilience and decrease the influences of shame and other self-destructive thoughts and emotions. The realities of intersectionality and “othering” are aspects of our society that I acknowledge as important to understand in order to move towards healing; especially for people with non-binary identities across race, gender, sexual orientation, and faith practices. I utilize a trauma-systems approach when working with persons with trauma histories. Other commonly utilized therapeutic approaches include CBT, ACT, brief solutions-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and person-centered therapy. I believe in the importance of working with (not for or fixing) individuals towards defining and achieving their goals. This same mindset of "working with" is the foundation for clinical supervision that I provide to social workers working towards obtaining the LCSW credential. I obtained my BS-Psychology, MSW, and PhD-Social Work from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. I have over three decades of experience in the social work profession across numerous areas of practice ranging from forensics, to medical, mental health, child welfare, and higher education. I am also on faculty at UALR's School of Social Work.
