Introduction

Francine Ybarra-Rojas, MS, LMFT Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist | License No: 000300 Francine is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Iowa with over 24 years of experience in the mental health field. She was raised in Puerto Rico and began her academic journey at the University of Puerto Rico before moving to Europe in 1972. Her education was paused when she married, began a family, and moved to Central America. In Central America, she served as an educator at the Nicaraguan French School and was trained by UNICEF as an early childhood promoter. In 1981, she moved to Iowa with her family to complete her formal studies at Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor of Science (1985) and Master of Science in Human Development and Family Studies (2003). Beyond her professional training, she carries the wisdom gained through lived experience. She has lived through the reality of a war-torn country and knows firsthand the courage it takes to flee a land you love to protect your children, while leaving behind a husband with no assurance of his safety. Having also navigated the profound grief of becoming a widow in 2002, she brings a depth of empathy to those facing loss, displacement, and life transitions. Francine's clinical approach is shaped by a global consciousness, recognizing the diverse cultural threads that weave each person’s story together, and she has worked with everyone from expectant mothers and young children to the elderly and individuals with disabilities. Having had the opportunity to reside in different parts of the world - Europe, Central America, South America, and the United States - Francine is fluent in Spanish, English, and French. This allows her to offer a safe, multilingual space for healing. Jocelyn Wilson, MSW, M.Div, LCSW/LISW Founder, The Kai Lani Center, LLC Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker | License No: 008284 (IA), License No: 149.015504 (IL) Jocelyn is a licensed independent clinical social worker and certified social work supervisor. She is independently licensed in Iowa and Illinois, and has over 25 years of experience in the social service and mental health fields. She holds graduate degrees in social service administration/social work and divinity from the University of Chicago, where she lived in the Hyde Park area for 10 years. She has also completed one unit of clinical pastoral education (CPE) as a hospital chaplain. Originally from Ames, she spent the early part of her career in rural Missouri, her mid-career years in Chicago, and has been back in Iowa for the last 13 years. She brings extensive experience as both an administrative and clinical social worker. Her administrative work has encompassed continuous quality improvement, community organizing, and qualitative research. She has also taught courses in Ethics, Philosophy, and World Religions at the community college level. Most recently, she served as Senior Clinical Director at a community mental health center serving youth 18 and under and their families. Jocelyn's clinical experience spans ages 3 through end of life. She works with executives and professionals in high-stress, high-stakes roles — sometimes within toxic work cultures — offering a confidential, nonjudgmental space to process stress, prevent burnout, and sustain the clarity their work demands. She has also worked with students from elementary through the doctoral level, couples, immigrants and refugees, hospice and palliative patients, survivors of domestic violence, and people navigating poverty, incarceration reentry, or the foster care system. As a hospital chaplain in the NICU, PICU, and orthopedics, she served on-call monthly, responding to chaplaincy requests and deaths hospital-wide. She deeply values the diversity of the client populations she has had the privilege of serving, and the expertise and wisdom gained from that work. Outside of work, she spends time with friends and family, including her two adult sons and her granddaughter. She is happiest outdoors, whether hiking, biking, paddle boarding, roller skating, or out for a long walk. She also enjoys reading and is an active member of a local women's group.
