Why I spend so much time explaining Mental health care doesn’t work like a lot of other medicine. There’s no single scan or blood test that gives a clear answer, and nothing that works in a few hours the way a pain reliever might. Sometimes it takes second-guessing, patience, and time to get it right. I grew up in a place where mental illness was often blamed on anything but illness. Moving into nursing, and later spending years as a visiting nurse caring for people in their homes, taught me how much understanding changes outcomes. Here’s what I’ve learned: when patients don’t understand their treatment, they stop it. They relapse. Medication can take weeks to work, and side effects can feel worse than the symptoms at first. If no one explains that up front, people give up. So I explain. How long it may take. What to expect. What to do while waiting. And when to call me. I also want to hear from you about what’s working and what isn’t. For the clinicians who refer to me: I’ll keep you in the loop on how your patients are doing, because care works best as a team. I’m a psychiatric nurse practitioner seeing patients ages 16 and up, in person and by telehealth. I accept United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Harvard Pilgrim Health Plan, Aetna, and Tufts Health Plan. I am still in the process of credentialing for many more insurance plans. To schedule, call 781-624-6245, email tcwellnesspractice@gmail.com, or visit.
