Introduction

My practice focuses on the treatment of anxiety and related disorders using evidence-based treatments that have been rigorously studied and shown to be effective. I have extensive experience treating the range of anxiety disorders including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, and selective mutism, as well as body-focused repetitive behaviors such as trichotillomania (i.e., hair-pulling disorder) and skin-picking. I work alongside my clients to reduce distress and increase functioning. I provide individual therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults, integrating members of the client’s support systems, as needed. I also provide parent training to caregivers to help them gain the skills and confidence to more effectively manage their children’s behaviors and help their children overcome anxiety, OCD, and related problems. I enjoy collaborating with families and schools, as well as important individuals and systems in my clients’ lives to help clients meet their goals. In addition to individual therapy and parent training, I provide consultation to schools and other organizations. My approach to treatment draws primarily from cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT). There is a robust body of research supporting the efficacy of CBT for anxiety and related disorders and my own experience successfully treating clients over the years reflects that research. CBT involves understanding how thoughts, behaviors, and emotions are interrelated. We then work on changing unhelpful thinking patterns and learning new behaviors in order to improve how we feel. I flexibly apply the principles of CBT to meet the individual needs of each client integrating other evidence-based approaches as appropriate. I have been working in mental health for nearly 20 years. I received an undergraduate degree in psychology from Yale University where I was involved in research at the Yale Child Conduct Clinic (now Yale Parenting Center) and was also a student-athlete on the women’s basketball team. Following graduation, I taught middle school science for two years before going to graduate school. I earned a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. I then completed my predoctoral internship in Child Clinical Psychology at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Child Study and Treatment Center through the University of Washington School of Medicine. Both my internship and postdoctoral fellowship focused on working with children and adolescents with serious mental illness in inpatient settings. After completion of my postdoctoral fellowship, I was a staff psychologist on the Child Anxiety Team at Evidence Based Treatment Centers of Seattle (EBTCS). My work there focused on providing individual and group therapy, as well as parent training, for children, teens, and adults with anxiety disorders. Our team also provided intensive outpatient services for children and adults with OCD and anxiety, as well as school refusal. Additionally, while at EBTCS, I developed and coordinated intensive treatment programs for children with selective mutism. I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Washington and can provide telehealth services to clients physically in the state at the time of service.
