Email: tylergibbenstherapy@gmail.com Website: tylergibbenstherapy.com I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (LCSWA) providing counseling to adults and adolescents in Raleigh, North Carolina. After attending the University of Florida, I began working in pastoral ministry, helping start new churches and ministering to adolescents and their families. This work eventually led me to move to North Carolina to pursue my Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. During my studies and for years afterward, I remained rooted in pastoral work, walking alongside individuals and families through their best and most challenging days. I grew up in Florida, the son of a pastor and schoolteacher - so questions of faith and care for others were woven into my life from the very beginning. Over time, I came to see that life’s hardest moments - filled with anxiety, grief, relational conflict, loneliness - come bundled with questions of faith, doubt, and meaning. I wanted to offer a space where people could bring their whole selves, without leaving any of these questions at the door. So I went back to school, earning a Master of Social Work (MSW) from North Carolina State University. I trained in evidence-based therapeutic approaches, while working at a psychosocial rehabilitation program for adults with severe and persistent mental illness, and a regional hospital providing crisis assessments, therapy, and substance use counseling in the emergency department and inpatient facilities. In therapy, I strive to integrate my theological background with my mental health training. I believe a trusting relationship between therapist and client is where change happens. I find myself returning to Eugene Peterson’s words, which captures how I desire to show up in those relationships: “Every meeting with another person is a privilege [...] I have chances that many never get as easily or as frequently - chances to spy out suppressed glory, ignored blessing, forgotten grace. I had better not miss them.” When I’m not seeing clients, I enjoy spending time with my wife and children. I love watching baseball, puttering around in the garden, and reading.
