BUILDING SECURE ATTACHMENT From the Creator to the Cradle Hello, I’m Valerie—though most people call me Val. I’m the owner and therapist at Inner Reins Counseling, where I provide virtual outpatient counseling for women experiencing mild to moderate depression or anxiety. Many of the women I work with are functioning in their daily lives but feel emotionally stuck, overwhelmed, or weighed down by patterns that no longer feel aligned with who they are. A significant part of my work focuses on helping women repair their relationship with themselves. Many clients enter therapy carrying fear, self-criticism, or self-hatred shaped by religious trauma, fear-based belief systems, or long-standing relational wounds. When this internal relationship feels unsafe or strained, it often shows up through unhealthy boundaries, unfulfilling relationships, or patterns that reinforce emotional exhaustion. In our work together, we focus on increasing awareness of these patterns and gently replacing fear with compassion, shame with understanding, and self-criticism with self-trust. My goal is to help clients develop a more secure and respectful relationship with themselves—one that naturally supports healthier choices and more fulfilling relationships. I offer short-term therapy, typically up to six months, focused on insight, skill-building, and meaningful, sustainable change. My role is to walk alongside clients as a guide—helping them better understand their triggers and patterns, strengthen emotional regulation and self-awareness, and move toward a greater sense of security, connection, and wholeness in themselves and in their relationships, including with God and their children when relevant.
