Dr. Lau Johnson is a Licensed Psychologist and Nationally Certified School Psychologist whose focus is on serving children, adolescents and families. Clinically, I’ve developed a particular expertise in treating trauma, anxiety, depression, and completing psychological evaluations for children and adolescents, as well as parent-coaching and consulting. Community and research-wise, I’ve had a career-long focus with developing culturally responsive treatment programs and strategies to serve historically marginalized youth. As a Licensed Psychologist, I provide services to children, adolescents, adults, and parents (parent training/consultation). My training has primarily been in evidence-based treatments, and I often rely upon cognitive-behavior therapy, family systems, and a life-span developmental, holistic and culturally responsive approach. However, I strongly believe in the importance of individualizing treatment programs to accommodate optimally the needs of the individuals involved. I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and families that present with a wide range of socio-emotional, behavioral, and learning/academic challenges. I provide individual therapy and psychological testing/assessment services to children and adolescents. Additionally, I provide parent training and psychoeducation to parents with children that have internalizing or externalizing mental health concerns. Areas of Expertise Include: • Psychological testing/assessment • Evaluations for learning disabilities, IQ/Gifted Placement (Hi-Cap) • School and academic concerns • Educational consultation/advocacy (i.e. Individual Education Plan, 504 Plan development) • Inattention and hyperactive/impulsive behavior patterns • Trauma • Race-Based Traumatic Stress • Anxiety, Depression, Grief and Loss • Racial/Ethnic Identity Development • Parent coaching and relationship enhancement • Foster Care and Adoptive Population • Juvenile Justice population Evidence-Based Approaches • Expertise in Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Anxiety and Depression • Certified Parent-Child and Interaction Therapy (PCIT) Therapist • Certified Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapist • UCLA-TIES for Families trained-- foster care and adoption population • Nationally Certified Trainer of Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools • Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP)
