Hello! My name is Yasmeen, or Yaz for short. I am a counseling intern in the final year of my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. I previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Counseling and Applied Psychological Sciences from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Northern Arizona University. I am passionate about providing accessible, high-quality counseling for individuals, couples, and families navigating life transitions, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, and other life challenges. As a United States Army combat medic veteran and the partner of a United States Air Force pilot, I have an appreciation for the resilience, change, and unique demands that military life and other high-pressure roles can place on individuals and families. My approach to counseling is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and informed by humanistic values, attachment theory, existential perspectives, and principles of interpersonal neurobiology. I view therapy as a collaborative process where clients can safely explore how their thoughts, emotions, and past experiences shape present-day patterns, behaviors, and overall well-being, while developing practical tools for growth and healing. I believe relationships both shape and heal us, and that meaningful change begins within a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to explore themselves honestly. I strive to create a supportive space where clients feel understood, challenged, and empowered as they move toward meaningful change. I work with clients to identify and shift unhelpful beliefs and behaviors that keep them feeling stuck, while also exploring identity, purpose, and meaning. Together, we will focus on strengthening emotional regulation, improving relationships, building resilience, and developing healthier coping strategies that support sustainable growth beyond the therapy room. I recognize that each client’s lived experiences, values, and relationships shape their journey, and I approach every client with curiosity, authenticity, and respect. I am committed to whole-person care and helping clients move from hopelessness to healing.
